1.)Using Too Much Heat
The Number one worst thing you can do to your hair is too much heat. The things we use to style our hair can also damage our hair when they are not used properly. The daily use of your curling iron will slowly dry out your end. Even a one-time use with scorching heat can permanently damage your hair.
Try gentler methods for curling and adding volume, like wrapping your hair at night or using satin covered roller. Occasional use of a thermal styling tool should be safe, but always use a heat protectant when using heat on your hair.

2.) Using The Wrong Products
Using the wrong products is another worst that you can do to your hair. When you visit your local drugstore or discount store chances are you will see a small aisle or area where retailers stock products marketed just for African-Americans. The thing is that many of these products are not good for black hair. these products often contain suffocating ingredients like petroleum or the product is so heavy that your hair will have no bounce or life to it.
Before you reach for the first product that makes all these promises to do this or that, look at the ingredients on the labels. Or better yet, expand your shopping to other brands like Paul Mitchell or Shea Moisture. These products work well with all hair types
3.) Frequent Shampooing
Shampooing daily is fine for some hair types, but not for black hair. It is recommended for black women to shampoo their hair once or twice a week. Make sure you are using a gentle shampoo. Avoid anything that contains sodium lauryl sulfate. This is the ingredient that gives shampoo a lot of lather. This will strip natural oils from your hair.
4.) Not shampooing frequently enough
Although you shouldn’t wash black hair every day, it needs to be washed more often than once a month. Not shampooing and letting dirt build up isn’t good for your hair. This will not grow your hair. Once a week is a good schedule to have although 2-3 times a week won’t hurt. Just make sure you moisturize your hair after shampooing because when your hair dry it will get dry and brittle then start to break.
5.) Over Processing your hair
There are so many people today applying chemicals to their own hair at home which is too easy to make simple mistakes like over processing. To avoid this hair sin it would be best to go see your stylist for relaxers and color applications. We can’t always get the style we want with our own hair. That’s where weaves come in at.
The more you do to your hair, the more likely you are to over process by relaxing, coloring or thermal styling. To avoid over processing may require some minor or major changes in your styling routine. Choosing one process at a time is a start. Instead of trying to play stylist at home, see your stylist for chemical applications. This would be another great way to go. Trust me your hair will thank you.
